TIMOKA TWO-FRONT SOCKS / DVOPREĐNE ČARAPE TIMOKA

Diverse in ornamental arrangement and rich in color, two-strand socks are distinct representatives of folklore "naive" art.

In the Knjaževac area, two-thread ornaments reached the peak of aesthetic development. It is rare to find two pairs of socks on which the ornaments and the composition of the pattern are the same.

Two-strand socks are made of domestic wool in two colors, which is why they got that name.
The basic parts of the sock are the foot and the upper
Socks are knitted from the top of the foot to the heel. When the foot or upholstery is knitted then the knitting continues into the upper. The foot and the upper part are spacious and ornamental and form a unique whole. The main place on the tops (according to which socks are divided into men's and women's) is the place for the middle pattern.
In most cases, the shape of the motif on women's socks is complex, larger, woven in several colors, and on men's socks, patterns of simpler shapes, smaller dimensions and only in one color predominate (eg red pattern on a black base).
The most beautiful socks were the so-called "Bridal", while the most valuable, which some old women kept as the greatest sanctuary - the selected, the most beautiful, "old".
Ornaments on double-breasted socks are a rich treasure of our cultural heritage.
